INTERIOR;
What is a Yurta?
Yurts
have housed people in Central and East Asia for centuries. The portability
and easy assembly of their homes was, and continues to be, crucial for
nomadic communities. Our Yurta is inspired by these principals.
How is it used?
The Yurta can serve as a long or short term dwelling and
vary according to its purpose. It can be installed on a platform or directly
on the ground. The Yurta is an ideal shelter for backcountry expeditions,
base camps, leisure housing. It can be used as a temporary booth at an
outdoor event, or a long term dwelling away from city lights, perhaps
an office or a studio space.
How is it made?
The Yurta base model can be customized according to our
client's needs. We offer various colour options, window placement, etc...We
believe that our design will satisfy our client's expectations and will
also serve to inspire its inhabitants.
The structure, visible on the inside, is made of white ash wood (fraxinus
americana); unsurpassed in strength and durability. Given proper care
and storage, the structure should last indefinitely.
The structure of both roof and wall has been optimized to make transport
and setup easier, it also contributes to the lighter look and feel of
the space without sacrificing performance in inclement weather. With less
structure in the way, windows are accessible and airy, making the indoors
of the Yurta feel like an extension of its natural surroundings.
The outer covers are sewn with care and precision and are made of treated
marine canvas and acrylic-coated polyester. Our insulation is made using
real wool felt with a radiant backing. The felt is made in Canada to our
specifications. Wool is the only fibre in the world that is naturally
self-extinguishing.
And tilt your eye to the sky! The large operable sky window in the centre
of the space allows for the tracking of the sun and clouds throughout
the day...and quite possibly, the Milky Way.
