Features

Yurta is a portable structure that is steadfast & versatile. It is an excellent shelter for intermittent or continuous use for all types of climate and sites. Portability and quick assembly are key features of this structure. This 21m² (225sq') fully insulated space can be deployed by two people in about 2 hours. It can be easily packed into a 1.2m X 2.4m (4x8') trailer.

Materials make the Yurta a healthy and joyful space to inhabit. The frame is made from the resilient white-ash wood (Fraxinus Americana) it is finished with a marine spar varnish. Marine grade cotton canvas is used on the exterior walls for breathable qualities. The roof fabric is an acrylic coated polyester; an industrial awning fabric which is non-toxic, waterproof and durable. All fabrics are fire retardant. We have specifically chosen not to use PVC coated fabrics in our Yurta out of concern for its toxicity. We strive to provide our clients with the best alternatives that balance cost, life cycle and healthy materials.

Warmth and Comfort are added and maintained with our 100% wool felt insulation with radiant backing. The felt works to retain heat in cold weather while reducing heat gain during hot and sunny days. This makes the Yurta truly comfortable year-round even in the most extreme weather conditions. With a heat source such as a wood stove, it is possible to maintain a comfortable 23ºC interior temperature when exterior temperature falls to -30ºC.

Operable and bright, the overhead dome 96.5cm (38") diameter and three full size windows allow for control/flow of fresh air and natural light. They are adjusted according to one's preferences. Three standard windows include mosquito netting, outer storm covers and clear film inserts. The sky light dome is operable, providing up to a 10cm (4") gap all around its base.
